Students at Abbotsford Primary School enjoy a range of extra-curricular activities. We provide many regular activites (see tabs above) and occasional activities such as Table Tennis, Theatre Studies, Gardening and Inter-School sports.
We offer Instrumental Music lessons for students in the areas of Keyboard, Guitar, Drums and Voice. These lessons occur during the school day, usually on a Thursday and Friday. There is a term fee for students wishing to undertake this program. Please speak to our office staff for more information.
All students are able to participate in our Soccer clinics, that occur every Wednesday after school until 4:45pm. Trained soccer coaches work on developing the soccer skills of participants, as well as play soccer matches with their peers. Sign up forms can be collected from the school office.
Tennis Hot Shots
The Australian Government sponsors our sporting schools initiative. As part of this sponsorship, the school determines a sport to play each semester, with Tennis Hotshots our current sport. All students participate in a lesson for one day per week with a qualified tennis coach. This occurs during school hours on a Friday.
Junior School Council
Each year, students have the opportunity to nominate for a Junior School Council position. All of the students get to vote for their representatives on school council in the same way that adults elect politicians, as this provides students an authentic way of understanding our political system. Junior School Council meet to discuss important issues for students, providing important feedback to the School Council and the Principal. Nominations for positions are called in November each year.
Each year, our students have the opportunity to participate in our camps programs. These include:
Foundation Stay Late: Students in Foundation (Prep) are able to stay at school late one night in Term 4, undertaking fun activities and having dinner with their classmates.
Year 1/2 Sleepover: Students in Years 1 and 2 are able to sleep over for a night at school, preparing them for our extended camp program in Years 3 to 6. They will undertake fun activities with their classmates and teachers, as well as enjoy dinner and breakfast together. The students sleep in one of our large classrooms for the night.
Year 3-6 Doxa Camp: Students in Years 3 to 6 have the opportunity for a two night camp at Doxa Malmsbury, where students sleep in cabins, prepare meals, undertake bush activities, work on science projects and get plenty of exercise. Students are taken to and from camp in a coach, with teachers organising and supervising students for all activities.
Year 5/6 China Exchange (begins in 2018): Students in Years 5 and 6 have the opportunity to fly to China, visiting Shanghai, Huaibei, Beijing and Xi'an for two weeks in September. As part of this trip, they spend four nights with a Chinese host family with our sister school in Huaibei, where they are able to practice their Chinese language skills and experience family life. Additionally, the students get to experience some of the amazing tourist attractions, such as the Great Wall of China, Terracotta Warriors and Tiananmen Square.
